The men’s water polo team played like warriors last Wednesday afternoon, however the same did not reflect the outcome as Fullerton beat El Camino 21-11.

El Camino fought hard in the first half matching Fullerton shot per shot. As the clock for the first half was ticking down Fullerton made a 7-4 lead into a 12-4 lead in matter of minutes. Hugo Palma played really well as his first game as goalie.

He made a couple great penalty blocks that kept the game close at the time.

“We earned a lot of ejections, Hugo (Palma) blocked two penalty throws, (Daniel) Wann did a great job at scoring and assists, (Daniel) Burdiak was everywhere as he was playing good defense and offense wherever it was needed” said Coach Stanbury.

As the second half started Fullerton kept on trying to pull away again but the Warriors fought hard and kept the lead to single digits for the longest time.

“We played well but our endurance wise they kicked our butts. We gotta keep up with our opponents and just swim faster in general. In order to get better we have to work more as a team and just each other up when one is not doing so well” said Daniel Burdiak.

Unfortunately as the game was coming to a close their endurance was no where to be found making any chance of a comeback very unlikely.

El Camino played really well despite the score and look to win their next game. This also showed that the players can play well together with the chemistry this team has, plus the ability to shrug off the loss and move on so they can focus on the next game.

“We got to work on shots on goal, plus we also got to keep up with the other team so endurance does play a factor as well,” said Coach Stanbury. “Our shots on goal this game was 6 out of 19 but I would want them to be at 11 or 12 out 19 shots on goal,” he added.

The Warriors look to get their first win of the season again MT. SAC at 4:15 p.m. on the road. It doesn’t matter how you start the season but it’s how you finish.
