Police Beat Jan. 5 – Jan. 19

Jan. 5, 10:16 a.m. An officer responded to Lot F for a hit-and-run report. A man who is not a student told the officer that when he returned to his vehicle, he discovered damage to the hood of his vehicle.

Jan. 5, 8:25 p.m. An officer conducting a security check at the El Camino College Small Business Center on Hawthorne Boulevard discovered graffiti at the location.

Jan. 7, 11:08 a.m. A vehicle with loud music driving in the 15400 block of Crenshaw was pulled over. When officers stopped the vehicle, the vehicle came back as a stolen vehicle when officers ran the license plate. The driver of the vehicle told officers that the vehicle belonged to his sister. Officers arrested the man who is not a student for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Jan. 8, 12:04 p.m. Officers stopped a vehicle in the 16700 block of Crenshaw Boulevard for an equipment violation. Officers discovered that the driver who is not a student was in possession of a glass smoking pipe. The officers issued the driver a citation for the drug paraphernalia.

Jan. 8, 3:14 p.m. A man riding his bicycle on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of Redondo Beach Boulevard was stopped by officers. The man was found to be in possession of a glass smoking pipe. The officers issued the man a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jan. 13. A construction supervisor at the Murdock Stadium construction site observed an unknown man inside a co-workers vehicle in Lot F. The supervisor told his co-worker what was going on and went to the vehicle where they confronted the man inside the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle told the man not to move and stay until police arrived. Officers arrived and arrested the man who admitted that he was trying to steal the vehicle. The man also told officers that his brother was acting as a look out for him, but already left the area. The man was arrested for attempted vehicle theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Jan. 14, 9:23 p.m. Officers were conducting a patrol check at the Small Business Center on Hawthorne Boulevard. Officers located a man and a woman inside a tent on the side of the building. Both of them were not students. The woman had a restraining order against the man that she was in the tent with. The man was in possession of a glass smoking pipe. Both the man and woman were arrested for violation of the restraining order.

Jan. 19, 12:30 a.m. A night custodian parked his vehicle in Lot B and later returned to find his vehicle burglarized. An unknown person smashed the drivers side window of the custodian’s 2000 Honda Civic and stole the car battery from underneath the hood and jumper cables from inside the vehicle.
