Police Beat June 27 – July 2

June 27, 10:31 p.m. According to the report, officers made a traffic stop on a vehicle that was speeding in the 3100 block of Redondo Beach Boulevard. The male driver, who was not a student had a strong odor of alcohol when approached by officers. Officers conducted a field sobriety test which the man failed. The man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and was transported to Torrance Police for booking. A report was taken.

June 28, 6:24 p.m. A suspicious man was observed by officers standing between the vending machines near the North PE. According to the report, officers detained the man who was not a student. The man told officers that he was looking for a restroom. Officers noticed that the man appeared to be disoriented and when officers ran his name, he was listed as a missing person out of LAPD Harbor Division. LAPD requested that the officers drop the man off at his home in San Pedro. He was taken to his home and turned over to his mother. His mother said that her son suffers from schizophrenia and was not taking his medication. A report was taken.

June 29, 10:23 a.m. According to the report, an officer responded to the police lobby for a petty theft report. A female student told the officer that she went to use the restroom on the first floor of the MBA building. She placed her wallet on the top of the toilet paper dispenser, walked out and then went home. She got home and realized that she forgot her wallet. A report was taken.

June 29, 8:41 p.m. An officer responded to the police lobby for a disturbance report. According to the report, a male student told the officer that he got into a verbal altercation with a man on the Metro 710 bus. He told the officer that they both got off the bus at El Camino and the other man was seen walking into campus. The student was told to call police if he sees the other man again. A report was taken.

June 30, 3:20 a.m. According to the report, officers responded to lot L for a man that was throwing rocks at cars there were driving by on Crenshaw Boulevard. The man was also seen damaging property with a hammer he was carrying. Officers found the man in front of the KFC across from lot L and had him lay on the ground at gunpoint because he wouldn’t comply with their orders. The man finally complied with the officers orders and dropped the hammer. Torrance police officers arrived to assist El Camino officers taking the man into custody. The man, who is not a student was taken to a area hospital for a 72 hour mental evaluation. Police also took a vandalism report sine the man damaged multiple signs in lot L. A report was taken.

June 30, 9:30 a.m. Officers responded to the walkway between lot H and the South Gym for a student having an asthma attack. Paramedics responded to the location and transported the male student to a local hospital. A report was taken.

June 30, 12:35 p.m. An officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle making an illegal lane change in the 15400 block of Crenshaw Boulevard. According to the report, the male non-student driver did not have a valid drivers license. The man was cited and the female passenger was allowed to take control of the vehicle. A report was taken.

June 30, 3:54 p.m. According to the report, officers responded to the Student Services Center for a suspicious person who was posing as a student worker in order to meet and assist females. Officers located the man and detained him. The man told officers he is not a El Camino student or student worker. The man also told officers that he was not posing as a student worker to meet female students. Officers told the man to immediately leave the campus and if he did return that he would be arrested for trespassing. A report was taken.

July 1, 12:56 p.m. An officer responded to the police lobby for a petty theft report. According to the report, a male student told the officer that his bicycle was stolen from the east side of the Natural Sciences building. The student did not lock his bicycle to the bicycle rack, but to the metal fence. A report was taken.

July 2, 8:37 a.m. Officers responded to the Library for a man that was seen inside the women’s restroom on the ground level. According to the report, officers did not locate anyone inside the restroom, but did locate a man matching the description at a near by computer. Officers detained the man who admitted to being inside the women’s restroom because he needed to use the restroom. The man who is not a student was issued a citation and told to leave the campus, and if he returned he would be arrested. A report was taken.
