Police Beat, Aug. 27-Sept. 5

Sept. 5, 11 p.m. Officers observed a suspicious vehicle in the Alondra Park parking lot, just west of the Facilities yard. Two subjects were in the vehicle; one male, one female. Both subjects were non-students. Officers found a small amount of methamphetamine inside the male subject’s left front shorts pocket. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked at Torrance Police Department. The female subject was released on scene.

Sept. 4, 5:15 p.m. Officers responded to the Technical Arts Building Room 152 regarding a disturbance call. A male and female student were involved in a pushing match which escalated into a physical altercation. The female student struck the male student in the face with a closed fist. The male student was not interested in criminal prosecution, however the female student was still referred to the director of student development.

Sept. 3, 7 p.m. An officer responded to to the Police Department lobby regarding a stolen vehicle report. A male student said that his 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck was stolen from the lower level of Lot F. Officers checked all parking lots on campus but were unable to locate the truck.

Sept. 3, 1:30 p.m. Officers responded to a medical aid call on the stairwell on the northwest side of the MBA Building. A female student was walking down the stairs from the third floor to the second floor when she missed a step and fell. She twisted her ankle. Paramedics were called and arrived on scene. The student was transferred to a local hospital for further treatment.

Sept. 3, 12:12 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance call coming from the area of the Lot C east parking lot and the Shops Building. A male subject was verbally harassing female students. When officers arrived on scene and located the subject, the male student immediately began calling the officers derogatory names. The verbal assault continued and became louder. The subject had a warrant for fare evasion and it was also discovered that the subject was a sex offender who failed to register with ECPD. The subject was arrested, transferred to Torrance Police Department, and was advised not to return to campus until he meets with the director of student development.

Sep. 2, 6:50 p.m. Officers responded to a hit and run call coming from Lot H. A student parked on the third level and said someone hit their car while they were in class. There was damage on the driver’s door and mirror.

Sept. 2,11:30 a.m. Officers received a call regarding a fight in progress on the north side of the Music Building. Students involved said a verbal altercation occurred leading one student to attack a group of students in front of the Music Building. The fight was broken up by ECPD. The attacker was arrested for battery and given a citation. Paramedics were called and arrived on scene.

Aug. 29, 1 p.m. Officers received a shots fired call just east of the Police Station. Officers immediately responded and were told by students waiting for the bus that the noise had come from a group setting fireworks off in front of the TextBook Inc. store across the street from EC. Suspects remain unknown.

Aug. 29, 11 a.m. Officers responded to a theft report in the library. A student said she was studying in the West Wing and got distracted. When she checked her purse later, she realized her wallet had been stolen.

Aug. 28, 3 p.m. An officer responded to Lot C South regarding a theft report. A male student said he returned from class and discovered the license plate to his motorcycle was missing. El Camino Police made the report and are still looking for the suspect.

Aug. 27, 4:35 p.m. An officer responded to the fourth level of Lot H regarding a hit and run report. A female student said she returned to her parked vehicle after class and discovered her front bumper had been hit. The bumper sustained moderate damage. There were no witnesses to the collision.
