The effects of sleep deprivation

We’ve all been in that situation where the deadline for an assignment creeps up or extra work comes in at the last minute and it cannot be put off. These are the times sleep simply has to wait. Lack of sleep however, can have negative effects on our bodies and our performance, so we should do our best to get enough each night.

According to Web MD, sleep deprivation affects your train of thought, and that hurts your potential at school or at your job. The reasons are understandable. Lack of energy and cognitive fatigue will wear out your ability to be as creative or productive as you would have been after a good night’s sleep.

Additionally, lack of sleep can lead to weight gain. This is because it causes your brain to make you crave fatty foods, thus increasing your chance of gaining weight according to the New York Times health blog. Taking a toll on your figure can be a wake up call and without natural energy, there’s no way you’re going to want to burn it off at the gym afterwards.

Lack of sleep affects social life as well because it can sour someone’s mood according to Web MD. This in terms has negative impact on relationships. Imagine being able to catch maybe five to six hours of sleep one night and having a long day ahead of you, not being in a happy state would seem inevitable. Your mind is mad at you and isn’t in the mood to be cheerful.

Sleep deprivation also affects personal life, according to the Telegraph it can lead to a decreased libido. Lack of energy and increased tension are to blame for this, which also adds stress to relationships. This would
certainly be a deal-breaker for most couples. If the prior reasons
haven’t convinced you to get enough sleep, hopefully this one does.

So, try to get your eight hours of sleep everyday. If not for yourself, then for your peers who appreciate a energetic and happy you everyday of the week.
