Free drive-thru flu shot clinic is being hosted by ECC

Free flu vaccinations will be offered for students, faculty, and staff by the El Camino College Nursing Program and Student Health Services.

The free Flu Shot Clinic will be held Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 in front of Marsee Auditorium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with walk-up and drive-thru assistance available, Student Health Services confirmed.

ECC announced the clinic via email, explaining that the flu vaccination is more important than ever this year.

The email also included an infographic covering research conducted by the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).

The research shows that contracting both the coronavirus and the flu at once is especially dangerous because both diseases target the lungs. It also explains that the flu can make the body more susceptible to infection.

Additionally, the study found that the flu, when paired with the coronavirus pandemic, could add to an already overloaded health care system, lessen testing capacity, and lead to greater health risks if the diseases are contracted at the same time.

The ECC email announcement stated that flu season is approaching, and getting an annual vaccine is important for the health and safety of everyone.
