Pell Grant program reduces federal aid

About one million recipients of the Pell Grant, the U.S.’s largest federal grant program, may soon start receiving $300 less in federal aid.

Another 90,000 grant recipients would be cut off completely.

The proposed change came from Congress in addition to an already existing $4,050 freeze on the grant for the third consecutive year.

Chancellor’s Office grants EC $500,000

EC will announce a $500,000 grant award from the Chancellor’s Office of the California Community College to train workers for the Maritime Industry on Saturday at 10 a.m. aboard the vessel S.S. Lane Victory in San Pedro.

The grant’s purpose is to train unemployed workers and high school seniors as well as to upgrade the skills of incumbent workers for the Maritime industry workforce.

Workshop helps determine careers

Students may attend a “True Colors” Workshop Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. in SSVC 208.

The workshop will cover personality styles as well as different majors and careers that best pertain to a one’s personality.

CSU representatives visit on Wednesday

Representatives from CSU Northridge and Cal Poly Pomona will be on campus to meet with students in the Transfer Center.

CSUN representatives will be on campus Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. by appointment and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by drop-in.

Cal Poly Pomona will be on campus Dec. 15 from 9 to 11 a.m. by appointment.

Circle K hosts dance “Winter Bash 2004”

Campus club Circle K will host the “Winter Bash 2004 Snowflake Event” dance.

The event will take place Friday Dec. 17 at the East Lounge of the Activities Center from 8 p.m. to midnight. The cost is $10 presale, $8 with ASB sticker or $12 at the door.

Funds raised by the event will be donated to Pediatric Trauma Prevention, which helps children with accidental injuries.

EC museum exhibits healing practices

The anthropology museum invites the community to join it at the opening of its 2004 exhibit “Spiritual Healing in Los Angeles.”

The event, which explores the practices of L.A. natives and immigrant curers, will be Wednesday Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Art and Behavioral Sciences Building 301.

There will be performance by the Afro-Caribbean Ensemble led by Francisco Aguabella. The reception will also include free food and drinks.

Union clarifies internship article

Regarding the Nov. 18 story on the Internship Fair, it was not organized by Don Ward, nor was it sponsored by the Career Placement Center.

Though Ward was a participant, the event was put on by the Career Center and was organized by Van Nguyen.
