The Los Angeles Sparks visited El Camino College to shoot photo and video packages for their social media at the ECC Gym Complex on Monday, May 12.
For the third consecutive year, the team has used ECC’s facilities to practice and prepare for Women’s National Basketball Association games.
Friday, May 16 marks the first game of the regular season for the Sparks as they are set to face off in San Francisco against the Golden State Valkyries, a new franchise and the 13th team to join the WNBA.
The Sparks’ record for 2023-24 was 8-32, representing their lowest win total and highest loss total in their franchise history.
Several injuries plagued the team last season, including a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered by small forward Cameron Brink.
The best season for the Sparks was in 2000, with a record of 28-4 the second best record record in WNBA history behind the 1998 Houston Comets.
In their franchise history, they have won three WNBA championships: 2001, 2002 and 2016.
New coach Lynne Roberts, who was hired post-season in November 2024, will be leading the team. Roberts had previously coached at the University of Utah.
Three recent first-round picks for the Sparks in the WNBA draft included Sarah Ashlee Baker, a guard from Alabama; Sania Feagin, a forward from South Carolina; and Liatu King, a guard from Notre Dame.
Attempts by The Union to interview representatives for the Sparks and the team’s players were denied.
