Set-by-set blog of women’s volleyball team’s upset over defending State Champions Cabrillo College

Update: Dec. 3, 4:16 p.m. Warriors demolish defending State Champions to advance to State Semifinals against Pierce.

El Camino stayed right on top of its game going into the third to completely undermine anyou semblance of a reverse sweep.

Cabrillo fell apart and ultimately dropped out of playoffs without defending its title.

Brydon, Waters and Hammond all notched 10 kills to lead the way as the Warriors swept the Seahawks to advance to the State Semifinals in a rematch against L.A. Pierce College.

Update: Dec. 3, 3:55 p.m. El Camino dominates Cabrillo in second set

The second set was not close. the Warriors came out on fire behind Nina Wyer’s serving and led by 14 for most of the set.

Cabrillo looked out of sorts after losing 25-12 and trailing 0-2 in the match.

Seahawks need some magic to avoid the upset, but the Warriors may have their number in this match.

Update: Dec. 3, 3:30 p.m. Warriors take first set vs. Seahawks

El Camino needed to come out with some fire and feed Micah Hammond and Taylor Brydon.

Cabrillo’s artillery needed to run its engine at full speed.

Both teamsides did exactly that, but EC came out on top after Hammond took over the match getting kill after kill to give her team some life.

Eventually Aiko Waters killed the first set and the Warriors took the first set 25-23.

The No. 8 overall ranked El Camino women’s volleyball team heads into the State Tournament as visitors against the 2015 defendiNguyen State Champions, No. 4 Cabrillo College.

The Warriors top offensive option, Taylor Brydon, said that she isn’t “scared of the title ‘defending state champions’ and looks forward to the match.

The winner of this match will face L.A. Pierce College at 7 p.m. for a ticket to the State Championship match tomorrow at 2 p.m.
