Athlete of the Week: Andre Labayen digs for men’s volleyball

Starting men’s volleyball libero Andre Labayan has had some struggles this season but is still putting up good numbers as he is No. 1 libero in the Western State Conference for digs per set. Photo credit: Jo Rankin

Andre Labayen, 19, is the starting libero for the El Camino College men’s volleyball team. He currently works for DoorDash, which is a food delivery service, and has been doing so for about five months. He doesn’t do much on his free time, except be at home or work.

Labayen has had some struggles this season, but still leads the team in digs per set (DPS), and is currently the No. 3 player in the state and No. 1 player in the Western State Conference with 2.60 DPS. He also stands at No. 8 for total digs in the state.

Question: What is your major?

Answer: Business, accounting and financing.

Q: What do you plan to do with your major?

A: I plan to work for Disney, and try to get into their headquarters and try to do accounting for them. Possibly branch out to their Marvel section.

Q: Why do you want to be at Disney and Marvel?

A: I enjoy Disney, I like comics and heroes and all of that.
