The men’s basketball team lost against Cerritos on Wednesday in a game that was memorable for its technical fouls and off-court drama.

An altercation between EC freshman forward Malik Wildermuth and Cerritos freshman forward Earl Morgan resulted in double technical fouls. Later, with seconds left on the clock and down by double digits, the Warrior bench made an early exit to the locker room.

The 66-54 defeat was EC’s second in a row and the Warriors have lost eight of their last 11 games. The opening half was an even affair despite the Warriors only making 29 percent of their field goals. They led at the half 24-21.

Cerritos broke away early in the second half, however, going on a 16-3 run and maintaining the lead for the remainder of the game.

Freshman forward Emmanuel Pope was the standout for EC on Wednesday with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Warriors are fourth in the conference standings with a record of 1-2 and 5-9 overall.

The men’s basketball team hosts the Compton Center on Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.
