Six-run comeback keeps state title hopes alive for softball team

The Warriors continue their fairytale softball season after they defeated Cerritos 8-7 on Sunday at Palomar College, according to CCCAA.

El Camino faced the Palomar Comets at noon on Sunday, but lost 10-2 in five innings.

The loss dropped the Warriors down to the losing bracket of the day and meant they had to beat the Cerritos College Falcons that same afternoon in order to earn a rematch against Palomar.

The Falcons took a commanding 4-1 lead after four innings before making it 7-2 going in to the bottom of the seventh and last inning.

That’s when sophomore pitcher Reina Trejo hit a three-run home run to center field which brought in two runners and cut the lead to two.

Sophomore outfielder Kathy Orozco then doubled to left field and brought in one runner before sophomore outfielder Samantha Lauro clinched the comeback with two RBIs from a right-field single.

The Warriors advanced to the last match of the Site A Regionals against Palomar tomorrow at noon. The winner of that match earns a ticket to the state championship that begins Friday at Bakersfield College.
