Compton upsets softball team, 6-3

The Warriors’ five-game winning streak came to an end with a 6-3 loss to the Compton Center Tartars.

“We just didn’t put the ball on the ground,” coach Jessica Rapoza said. “We had pop ups and strikeouts and we know that that is our enemy, pop ups and strike outs. We just kind of reverted back to old ways instead of putting the ball on the ground.”

El Camino remained scoreless until the sixth inning. The bases were loaded when sophomore first baseman Jacqueline Gonzalez came up to bat.

Gonzalez connected her bat to the ball driving it down the right-field line which sent sophomore second baseman Marissa Padilla, sophomore third baseman Reina Trejo and sophomore catcher Gabby Fordiani home to score.

The Warriors rallied but they couldn’t come back from the deficit.

“We had way too many pop ups,” sophomore pitcher Danielle Bonsky said. “We needed to put the ball on the ground way more. That’s what we do that’s the way our team is.”

The Warriors next game is at home on April 9 against East L.A. College at 3 p.m.
