Police Beat Aug. 30 – Sept. 7

El Camino College

Aug. 31, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. According to the report, approximately three cars parked in Lots F, H and L had catalytic converters removed and stolen. ECPD reviewed security camera video from the area and now have a possible suspect and license plate number. All of the victims are El Camino Students. A report was taken.

Sept. 1, 12:59 p.m. Officers took a burglary report at the police station.

Sept. 1, 3:19 p.m. According to the report, an officer stopped a vehicle in Lot K for expired registration. The driver who is not a student was driving with a suspended license. The officer issued the driver a citation and had the man who was driving park the vehicle in the parking lot. A report was taken.

Sept. 2, 1:12 p.m. Officers responded to the Arts and Behavioral Sciences Building for a suspicious person. Officers were not able to locate the suspicious person.

Sept. 2, 8:01 p.m. According to the report, an officer responded to the area of Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard for a speeding vehicle. The officer located the vehicle and stopped the vehicle at Marine Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard. The driver, who is not a student, had a warrant for battery from Inglewood Police. The officer issued the man a citation. A report was taken.

Sept. 3, 1:18 p.m. According to the report, a student came into the police lobby and told a dispatcher that he was just robbed at gunpoint in the upper level of Lot F 15 minutes ago. Officers responded to the location while the victim gave the dispatcher more information. The student told the dispatcher that he was sitting in his car when two men approached the driver’s side of his car. The student said that one of the men showed him a silver handgun and demanded the victim’s valuables. The student complied with the man. The suspects left northbound on foot toward Manhattan Beach Boulevard. The incident is under investigation. A report was taken.

Sept. 3, 1:35 p.m. According to the report, an officer responded to the library for a medical aid. A staff member was having back spasms. Paramedics were called and arrived at the library. The staff member was transported to an area hospital. A report was taken.

Sept. 4, 8:25 a.m. Officers responded to the MBA Building for a disturbance. According to the report, when officers arrived a faculty member told officers that she saw a woman, who is a student, talking very loudly to herself. The faculty member told the woman to lower her voice, but the woman became irritated and began yelling back. Officers asked the student to come outside of the building. The student came outside to talk to the officers. The officers then discovered that the student is a transgender man. When officers ran the student’s name, the student had a warrant for his arrest from Pasadena Police for assaulting a police officer. The officers attempted to put the man into custody when he resisted arrest. The officers were able to place the man under arrest and transported him to Pasadena Police. A report was taken.

Sept. 4, 12:37 p.m. According to the report, an officer responded to Lot B for a medical aid call. A staff member tripped over a concrete parking bumper and fell. The staff member complained of neck and knee pain, but declined to be transported to a hospital. A report was taken.

Sept. 5, 8:53 p.m. Officers responded to Lot L for a suspicious vehicle.

Sept. 5, 10:38 p.m. Officers responded to Lot L for a suspicious vehicle that was unoccupied.

Sept. 6, 10:53 a.m. Officers responded to the North PE for suspicious circumstances.

Sept. 6, 4:42 p.m. Officers responded to the Athletic Field for a disturbance call.

Sept. 7, 2:36 p.m. Officers responded to the Athletic Field for a disturbance call.

Gardena

Aug. 31, 10:12 a.m. A residence in the 2400 block of 152nd Street was burglarized. Unknown suspects entered through a sliding glass door and took rings and gold pendants.

Sept. 2, 8:55 p.m. A residence in the 2500 block of 157th Street was burglarized. Unknown suspects smashed a window and stole jewelry.

Sept. 2, 9:34 p.m. A home in the 15400 block of Harvard Boulevard was burglarized. Unknown suspects pried open a sliding window and took jewelry and money.

Sept. 3, 9:01 a.m. A home in the 15200 block of Ardath Avenue was burglarized. Unknown suspects entered through an unlocked door and stole appliances.

Torrance

Aug. 30, 3 p.m. A man in the 18000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard was posing as a car salesman at Carmax. The victim gave the man money for a down payment and the man fled the scene.

Aug. 31, 9:47 p.m. A vandalism report was taken in the 17900 block of Prairie Avenue. Unknown suspects cut zip ties that connected a phone line to the roof of a building.
