Stop posts that are not suitable for work

In today’s society, the abbreviation NSFW (not suitable for work) has become synonymous with inappropriate material, such as pornography and/or graphic violence. It has earned this title as many people can find these posts on their Facebook news feeds, which many love to check during a slow moment at their jobs.

There are two problems with the NSFW posts: the fact they keep getting published, and the fact that people feel the need to view them while at work, even though it’s clearly marked as not suitable for it.

Today’s society is one of rebellion and nonsense, as we act before we think, especially when it comes to publishing what will get more likes and more clicks. if it’s dangerous, and has a strong possibility of injury, we’ll do it. If it’s edgy and controversial, we’ll say it and spread it.

The younger generation is even more vulnerable to more profane and offensive messages, as they only wish to belong, and if the generation before them keeps spreading these messages toward them, the chain is only going to continue endlessly.

If we’re going to spread messages full of profane language toward today’s youth, we need to at least be saying something positive or inspiring with these words. We need to be telling the kids to stand up for themselves if they’re being bullied, or to not be afraid to show who they truly are.

As far as the violent material goes, we usually are seeing a video of a tragedy occurring in some area of the country, be it an officer-involved shooting, or a horrible bullying incident, and these are still pretty intense posts to view, but they at least show the problems with our society and hopefully influence the younger generation to do the right thing.

But what’s really disappointing is that people love to post themselves committing what are felonies, such as underage drinking and drunk driving, as though it’s supposed to impress those of us who see it, but in reality, it just shows the lack of intelligence that goes into their actions of what they did and showing it to everybody. Is it really so important to break the law and publish it for the world to see?

It’s really childish to put all of people’s stupid escapades out for the world to see, and we as a society need to grow up and think about the consequences before we hit that publish button. Not only do our friends and family see these posts, but employers (current or potential) can see them as well, which can truly affect one’s chances at a job.

If we post nothing but sex and drugs on our Facebook pages and on our Instagram posts, no one will want to hire us, as we seem like irresponsible and immature workers. But if we instead to chose to post more positive, adult posts, we can demonstrate to employers how responsible we are and that we are mature adults.

And why do people feel the need to keep viewing these posts at work, even though they are labeled as not safe to view? It just shows a greater lack of maturity, as not only are we slacking off in work in order to check our social media and that we truly don’t care if viewing these posts can get us fired.

All in all, we need to grow up and stop posting material that is NSFW in order to get more likes. We need to be more mature and responsible both in our workplaces and in our social media activity if we hope to ever be taken seriously.
