Spears' tour less sexual than expected

“Once you’ve checked in, you can’t check out.” After having said that sentence, the “Onyx Hotel Tour” of Britney Spears began Tuesday night the Staples Center.

The setting of the concert, of course, was a hotel. It started off with four red curtains attached to the front of the stage which slowly rolled up as dancers danced their way out to the middle of the stage.

Then Spears was riding on a miniature double-decker look-alike metal cart and entered to the center of the stage, singing her latest single “Toxic.”

The whole concert looked like a scene from the movie “Chicago” with all the hotels and Las Vegas casinos in the background.

It had a mysterious atmosphere, which really got the audiences interested. The special setting and lighting effects caused the viewer to feel as if he or she was in a real hotel; the audience reacted to this.

Spears had eight different costumes throughout the concert. Each one went with different sub themes and songs.

Spears wore a pink bunny suit when she performed her two hit singles “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops! I Did It Again,” which were re-arranged with a jazzy tune in it while two male dancers in the background played cards as Spears teased them.

The most impressive part of the concert was when Spears was sitting on a swing in the air, dressed up like a fairy, while acrobats were clinging on the cloths hanging along the two sides of Spears, performing trapeze.

Next, Spears sat down by a grand piano to take her time and chat with the audience. She started to briefly discuss what she has gone through during the past six months.

It was a touching moment where the audiences, especially Spears’ fans, got to see what Spears herself has to say about rumors and negative news about her.

But there was a review published prior to the concert held in L.A., where the critic listed out what Spears said when she was sitting by the piano at the other concerts.

The lines happened to be exactly the same, word by word, which gives a rather fake feeling toward what she had to say.

There were a lot of dances throughout the concert. Spears and all the dancers did a good job with teamwork on stage; they got the audiences totally into the show.

Aside from the backgrounds, songs and dances, Spears’ trademark sex moves were seen throughout the concert.

But she reduced the amount of those moves compared to her “Dream Within A Dream” tour in 2002.

There was a part of the concert where Spears wore a see-through full body stocking and took a bath in the transparent tub.

During this performance, four of her other dancers were lying in bed, performing sexual moves which were not suitable for children who were at the concert.

“Onyx Hotel” was overall a good concert, but audiences were a little bit skeptical about whether Spears was really singing live or not.

There was no panting despite the heavy and fast movements of her dances.

The concert was a successful production, bringing stimulating visual effects and dances to the audiences non-stop.

Pre-concert performances were by Skye Sweetnam and Kelis, who both performed five songs each.
